Let There Be Purists
Visual artist Tacita Dean argues for a boutique film lab in the UK. Her plea stems from Soho Film Lab’s recent decision to stop making 16mm film prints. I agree that analog and digital should exist together in the world—for film, music, photography, books, etc. Life would be so boring if we didn’t have options: I may watch “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” on my laptop through Netflix’s instant streaming on Saturday, and then attend a 16mm screening of a German sex education film on Sunday. Sounds like a dreamy weekend to me.
